Lucas is a Legal Associate with Amica Law LLC. His practice covers a range of non-contentious and contentious intellectual property matters, including brand protection and strategies, trade mark prosecution and portfolio management, opposition, revocation and invalidation actions, and intellectual property litigation and enforcement.  Lucas has represented and advised clients from a wide range of various industries, including fast-moving consumer goods, technology, gaming, and entertainment.

Lucas graduated from the National University of Singapore with an LLB (Hons) degree in 2020, where he obtained distinctions in several intellectual property-related modules. He was called to the Singapore Bar in 2021.

Experience

Sample matters which Lucas has been or is involved in include:

  • Acting for a Singapore-based group of companies in the management and prosecution of its global trade mark portfolio across multiple jurisdictions, including advising on its global trade mark disputes against a large European FMCG corporation.
     

  • Acting for a client in its enforcement campaign relating to the infringement of copyright by various sellers on e-commerce platforms. Successfully obtained a Court order (Norwich Pharmacal order) against the said platforms to disclose the identities of the infringing parties.
     

  • Acting for an NFT-gaming startup in disputes with a multinational video gaming company and a Big Tech company in relation to the registration and use of its trade mark.
     

  • Acting for an FMCG group in its dispute with a multinational entertainment company relating to likeness and image rights of a celebrity group.
     

  • Acting for a client in resisting and setting aside a Mareva injunction, and defending a claim for USD 1.66 million in the Singapore High Court, obtaining an order for indemnity costs against the unsuccessful claimant ([2023] SGHC 104).
     

  • Acting for a film and entertainment company in an intellectual property enforcement program in Singapore.
     

  • Advising and assisting in recovery of trade mark ownership rights through a combination of invalidation, opposition and cancellation proceedings.
     

  • Acting for a well-known restaurant in the successful enforcement of its trade mark after identifying the infringing party through desktop investigations.
     

  • Acting for clients in WIPO UDRP and other domain name registry proceedings to recover their domain names from squatters.
